Only 10 minutes walk down to the post office and across the park is the beach. There are several access points. There is a cafe on the beach level is currently closed. The park itself has a children’s play area, a skate park, an outside gym and mini golf. Once on the beach heading west you can walk all the way to Cromer if so desired 8 Miles) or via the coastal path. There is another Café at Trimmingham and further on facilities in Overstrand. There is a golf club with a driving range to the west of the village. The Royal Cromer Golf Club offers a high standard 18-hole course. Details can be found at www.royalcromergolfclub.com. The village has a selection of shops including a butchers across the road beside the free car park, a chemist, green grocer and post office, a Spar (200m towards the coast on the High Street) and a Tesco Express on the way out of the village towards Overstrand. There is a fresh fish outlet on the free car park and on the pay and display car park on the sea front. The petrol station is next to the Tesco extra heading west from the village on the coast road towards Cromer. North Waltham has a Waitrose and Sainsbury’s plus a small shop in the centre of the town.
Further afield The Norfolk Broads can be accessed at several places, the main departure point being Wroxham. Day boats are available with facilities on board. Closer to Mundesley boats can be hired from Richardson’s Holidays at Stalham (20 minutes from Mundesley) 01692 581522.
Norwich is just 40 minutes away by car with a fine choice of shopping, museums and restaurants. Trains also run regularly from North Walsham. Cromer along the coast is a very popular seaside resort with traditional attractions. Again, a fine range of shops restaurants, the beach and of course the crabs!
Further round, Sheringham (25-minute drive), Holt (25 minutes) Holkham (45 minutes) Wells (45 minutes) and Blakeney (40 minutes) are all worth a visit. The beach at Holkham is always topped off with a visit to the Victoria pub. The driving times assume normal conditions, the A149 can get very busy however taking the A148 and then cutting back to the coast can save some time when driving to the western coastal places.
